THEA CHASSIN
Thea Chassin designs lighting for residential and commercial sites. A graduate of the UCLA Extension’s FIDER accredited department of Interior and Environmental Design in Los Angeles. She has completed master’s courses at the Lighting Research Center of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and its Landscape Lighting Institute. She is an associate member of IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers), a member of the Hudson Valley chapter of the IESNA (Illuminating and Engineering Society of North America), and a member of the Designers Lighting Forums of Los Angeles and New York. A former physical therapist with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in Physical Therapy and a Master of Arts from New York University in occupational biomechanics, Thea Chassin brings to her work a unique understanding of how individuals respond to lighting, and the essential role good lighting plays in revealing form, structure and detail. Not surprisingly, Thea Chassin has a passion for creating spaces where people feel comfortable. “Lighting is transforming. The lighting of your shop, office or home has a visual impact on everyone who walks or drives by,” Chassin says. “A well-lit space provides the physical and emotional comforts that allow everyone to enjoy the views – even subtle changes can make a big difference.” Utilizing the latest lighting technology and techniques, her work achieves the balance between the practical needs of a project and its aesthetic goals. Her work appears in "The Landscape Lighting Book," second edition, 2005, by the internationally acclaimed designer and educator, Janet Lennox Moyer of MSH Visual Planners. “ Individuals and businesses come to a professional lighting designer because they want to reinforce the architecture and integrate lighting seamlessly with their landscape. They may not know yet how they want the structures or landscape to look, or know much about appropriate lighting or the potential it offers, but they are open to learning about the ranges of techniques and opportunities available.” |
